The “King” crosses over at the young age of 96.
Jack Lalanne was the godfather of the fitness world. Like Elvis was to rock and roll,
Jack deserves the title “The King of Fitness”.
He was one of the first to bring a healthy fitness lifestyle to America. He brought the idea of healthy eating and nutrition to the public eye. The concept of the “health club” comes from Jack as well. Jack started that back in 1936.
In the 50’s he had his own television show and published countless books on the topic. Some say he was hokey and was a bit of a show man. That for sure is true. But that showmanship cannot take away from his amazing achievements and his inspiration to others. He wanted to show america that we don’t have to slow down as we get old and he set incredible goals to prove to himself and the world that we can “Live young forever”.
At age 44 he paddle boarded 30 miles, 9-½ hours non-stop from Farallon Islands to the San Francisco shore.
At age 60 He swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman’s Wharf, handcuffed, shackled and towing a 1,000-pound boat.
At age 66 He towed 10 boats in North Miami, Florida filled with 77 people for over a mile in less than 1 hour.
The list goes on and on. Anyone that has done any sort of endurance event can really appreciate the accomplishment of these feats. So when you sit down for your next meal or go out for your next workout think of Jack. Think of Jack when you need motivation for your next workout.
The King of fitness will truly “live young forever” and continue to inspire us all.
