In Triathlon/Duathlon 14 minutes is nearly a lifetime.
John improved his time on the same course by 14 minutes from last year! It was a short race too (run 3.1 mile, bike 23 miles and run 3.1)
His results came from working on his position, his equipment and his technique. His fitness level and training is similar to what is was the year before.
John is a super nice guy and incredibly fit athlete. About a year ago we worked on his position and built a beautiful custom Guru CR901. We also reviewed his pedaling technique and he has been training hard.
John is doing everything right.
Bike is comfortable
Cadence is high (avg 102!)
Rides Aero wheels every day
Measures and monitors his effort with powermeter
Just look at these results
They speak for themselves.
Did a triathlon in Smithfield 3 weeks ago. TOTALLY blew the swim. You go in the pool in 10 second intervals. I was worried about slowing the people down behind me. I went too hard and got out of breath. Swam it 1 minute slowly than I should have.
Then worried about freezing on the bike, i struggled with a jacket in the transition. Not easy when all wet. I did not need the jacket. lesson learned. 48 degrees and soaking wet is fine when pushing HARD.
But my top speed was 35mph with a tail wind.
Finished 3rd in my age group (40-44). 10th fastest guy on a bike.
21st overall out of 425+ people.
Virginia Duathon (run 3.1 mile, bike 23 miles and run 3.1).
Passed a few people and finished 4th overall out of 239 people.
I beat the guys in my age group by over 10 minutes. That shifted me to placing in the Masters Overall (guys over 40 years of age). I placed 1st.
23.8mph average. 223 watts, 231 norm watts. 3.44av W/kg with a 102 cad. I was pretty happy with those results.
My overall results were 14 minutes faster than last year. YEAH!
I had 3rd place OVERALL from 1/2 through the bike until mile 3 of the last 3 mile run. Brian (age 23) passed me and beat me by 39 seconds.
I’m excited because I have never placed very high overall. I pushed HARD and have to throttle back for the longer races that are coming next month. Something I am not good at.”
